Young Achiever award cancelled but secures five-year sponsorship deal
ORGANISERS have been forced to cancel next year’s Young Achiever of the Year award.
With coronavirus playing havoc with sport across the Border, the prestige junior award has been put on hold for 12 months.
It has been staged for 25 successive years.
“It has been cancelled due to COVID-19 and athletes not being able to compete at the highest level possible,” president Rob McDonald said.
“We look forward to planning an event in 2022 and seeing our local athletes reach their highest achievements.”
But in a major boost, Sport Albury-Wodonga has secured a five-year sponsorship deal with the Joss Group.
The company will take over from long-time supporter Norske Skog.
“It is with great pleasure we make the announcement and thank the Joss Group for their interest in youth and sport and continuing on the history of the award,” McDonald said.
“The 2020 award night celebrated 25 years since the award commenced and recognised the history it has captured with Emma George, Lauren Jackson, Scott Martin, Rebekah Keat, Britteny Cox, Jordan Boys and James Willett just to name a few crowned winners from our region.”
The award is open to people aged from 16 to 21.
